I initially tested negative, but it was a false negative, so I just donated platelets when my wife donated plasma. Then in August, I found out I had high Covid antibodies, so the blood bank switched me to donating plasma!

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Life graced me with a mild case of Covid and I made antibodies....now I share them!! I have been a platelet donor for several years now so of course after having Covid I wanted to donate Convalescent Plasma. I hope to to help others who are fighting this awful virus and don't have it as mild as I did. I am now on my 3rd of 8 weeks of Covalescent plasma donations.

I've never been a huge fan of donating blood. I idea of seeing my own blood outside of my body. The Red Cross started to test donated blood for free in October, so I went for a whole blood donation with my husband. Sure enough, I came back positive for antibodies. I decided I should donate convalescent plasma so my husband and I went to the Red Cross in Flint in mid-December. I got a notification from them letting me know that my donation helped, it was a great feeling! As a healthcare worker, I am already vaccinated and I'm very glad to have donated when I was able.

My COVID infection occurred immediately following Labor Day 2020. My wife and I were both very ill, mostly with severe fatigue and extreme muscle aches. Thankfully, neither of us suffered any life-threatening respiratory symptoms. In mod October, we both donated whole blood with the American Red Cross, which provide positive evidence of our COVID antibodies. I began to donate convalescent plasma in early December. I have completed four plasma donations and intend to complete four more within the next weeks. I enjoy donating with the Red Cross staff at the Flint, Michigan Blood Center.

I am married to a wonderful man and we have 6 kids and 3 grandkids. I had a positive COVID antibody test. I decided to donate plasma after watching a 60-minute special about plasma from COVID patients being “liquid gold”. There were several stories about how the plasma had saved the patient’s lives. I feel very blessed to have survived COVID and it is the least I can do to help others who became much sicker than me. I would encourage anyone to give plasma to help others especially if you have the COVID antibodies. It truly saves lives. I now have made 6 plasma donations.

My children who live in our house were exposed at work (first responders in NYC) in mid March, and it spread quickly. We had 7 people sick and fortunately I was mild enough to care for everyone. My husband was hospitalized twice, the second time with 7 pulmonary embolisms and double pneumonia. We didn't think he would make it, but miraculously he pulled through. When he was in the hospital I decided to donate plasma to help others in our situation. I am scheduled for my 4th donation tomorrow and will continue until I reach my 7th (the limit in my area).

I had Covid back in early February, before we knew it was in New England. I'm one of the lucky ones-I had what I thought was the worst, strangest cold ever but was able to recover even after losing my sense of taste and smell for months. I tested positive for antibodies May 7. In March, my 92 year old aunt was diagnosed with the virus. She was hospitalized and on a ventilator. She fought to survive and made it to a rehab facility. Unfortunately, she had a stroke and we lost her 2 weeks ago. So, I have donated my plasma in her honor in hope that I can help others defeat this horrid virus

After their quarantine, they heard the call on their local news for convalescent plasma donors. They made their first trip out of seclusion to their local blood bank, Community Blood Center. "We just wanted to donate and see if we can help some people," Kevin said. "Something good has to come out of this." "We're thinking that they can use the plasma to find a serum or some kind of cure to help people that are suffering so terribly from this," said Leslie

Friends tend to do things together. In this case, donating plasma was no different. David contracted coronavirus by traveling, he believes, and passed it to his friend Kevin while celebrating Mardis Gras back in February with their family and friends. After recovering, the two men decided to donate together through LifeShare Blood Center. David has been approached by the family of a loved one in the ICU of a local hospital who was suffering from the virus. “I’m hoping as more and more people have negative test results come back in, that they will be willing to go in because there is no reason to be afraid to do it, and you’ll be saving some lives," Langston said. “I hope this procedure works, they are doing it. And so if it does, people need to line up and give plasma. If this works, they will be saving some lives.” Both friends plan on donating again in the future.

Kevin's friend David had previously contracted Covid-19 by traveling, they believed, and passed it to Kevin, who is a Caddo deputy, while celebrating Mardis Gras back in February, with their family & friends. After recovering, the two men decided to donate together through LifeShare Blood Center. “If this works and they do need the plasma, they may need a lot. So people need to know about it. We were there less than two hours and that includes the screening portion. It’s just something that we need to do and it’s so simple. We’re all in this together, even if we’re apart,” Calhoun said. "We’re all in this together.” Both friends plan on donating again in the future.

After hearing the call of a local 17yr old who needed plasma, Columbus dentist, George Tzagournis, 49, felt the urge to do his part. Back in March, George had suffered from the novel coronavirus, experiencing some of the worst side effects possible. The father of three knew how important his actions were. “What better way to combat this virus than to actually do something that’s pretty easy…Having three kids who are college age, I would hope that someone else would do the same thing for us if we were in need… it was a no-brainer.”

After spending 11 days in the hospital in early March, Clay, one of the first in his state of Georgia to be diagnosed with coronavirus, visited Blood Assurance, a blood agency, to donate his convalescent plasma. The 59 year old was a little nervous as his memories of the hospital came back to him, but he knew the value in his plasma. "I had to fight it, I had to fight it, and I know that I have, in my blood, the antibodies that know how to fight this disease, It just goes into them and immediately begins fighting for them. It gives me great honor knowing that I am helping someone else…To know that you have a commodity on inside you, that could help other people get through this, I don’t see how you could not do it, It’s just emotional. Just knowing that you can help someone else. You know, I have to do it."
